LCUK Silicon Meeting 14/10/15

Attending: Phil, Armin, Wing, Joel, Chris, Joost, Tim, Yvonne, Peter S.

News

A Japanese delegation recently visited major European labs including Daresbury. They were informed about past and present UK support for the ILC, and are heading for the U.S, next,

We argreed to trial sharing of technical documents on the Bristol wiki site.

Liverpool Mechanical Work

Joost presented an overview of the current plans for mechanical work. These will focus on demonstrating viable mechanical and cooling solutions for the central tracker. Liverpool will develop a test chamber (wind tunnel) to test air cooling of open cell foam blocks, and hope to develop models.

Oxford Mechanical Work

Georg proposed a box channel design, which is both intrinsically stiff and helps direct cooling air flow. Preliminary FEA studies look very promising, but the practicalities need to be investigated. Funding some prototypes from the STFC funds is not out of the question.

AOB

It was suggested that there should be an LCUK meeting early in 2016.

The next silicon meeting is planned for Wednesday 18th November at 12:00 (virtual).
