HLRF MEETING MINUTES OF MARCH 1, 2007 Discussion of EDR Goals: Reference slides from Beijing meeting, EDR Work Pkgs. HLRF 030207R3 C. Jensen Email note of questions re: Marx Attendees: KEK: S. Fukuda, T. Shidara FNAL: J. Reid, O. Nezhevenko SLAC: C. Adolphsen, R. Cassel, M. Neubauer, C. Nantista, G. Leyh, R. Larsen 1. Marx Questions a. Jensen and Nezhevenko question a statement made in one of Larsen’s reports that the planned 2000 hour test could be the basis of a down-select. Objections were raised that a more thorough test with LLRF present was needed before that could occur. Partly concerns were about noise effects on the RF. b. G. Leyh noted that all switched currents are very low compared with the current modulator which helps mitigate radiated noise. However all concur that all important phases of operation needs to be verified to prove a robust design. 2. The bulk of the meeting discussion was based on the slides which defined the EDR goal and attempted to explore some examples of work Packages. A revised set of slides has been attached. a. The meeting noted recent comments by Ray Orbach, DOE Office of Science, indicating a likely stretching of the construction effort to the mid 2020’s. However he also strongly supports the EDR effort and the ILC is still the top priority mid-range program for the DOE. This will be argued back and forth but our mission in the meantime is to work diligently toward making the EDR goals, once they are firmed up, and aggressively building the collaboration at all levels to speed up this timeline (RSL comment).
