US/Pacific
Description
Updates, discussion and plans for ILC-ESA program. Call-in info: 510-665-5437. Meeting id is 7784. Times given are SLAC time, currently Pacific Daylight Time.
Minutes from Sept. 25 meeting (in addition to notes in agenda) + other updates:
1. ESA "Punch List" for tracking ESA work, discussed at Monday/Thursday ESA floor meetings is available at: http://www-project.slac.stanford.edu/ilc/testfac/ESA/files/PUNCH_LIST.doc
2. T-480
i) Adriana found problems with calibration files she was using for the presentation results last week. With correct files the bpm offsets are all within a few hundred microns. Reference orbits and scans look reasonable. Reanalysis of the wakefield kick scans is underway. Steve is studying cuts on charge and track chi**2. He's also studying a cut on where the upstream and downstream trajectories meet, but is studying whether this introduces a bias.
ii) Nigel commented that are problems understanding reproducibility of wakefield kicks on different scans with same collimator. This is under study.
iii) new collimators will be ready for Run 3. Will keep at least one existing collimator in each of the 2 sandwiches.
3. T-474/491.
i) The T-474X proposal has been approved as T-491, subject to safety approvals.
ii) The 4 10D37 magnets are ready for re-assembly. Some pictures are at:

iii) Measurements to be done by Magnetic Measurement Group
- integral Bdl to 2e-4 level; + measure profiles
- moving wires, NMR probes and Hall probes
- can measure temperature coefficients
- their group will perform the measurements
- have given us a form to complete for requested measurements
- expect to do measurements ~Nov. 1, possibly earlier
iv) ESA mag. measurements should start by mid-november; in both ESA and MMG measurements will investigate what can go wrong in mapping relation between NMR reading and integralBdl
v) interferometer updates. FY06 money just arriving now. need to buy more interferometer heads and components for reference interferometer cage. Getting mechanical design from LICAS group. Would plan to reconfigure current system to new one tying together bpm stations pre-chicane and mid-chicane. Need to work out geometry for where interferometer arms go and where support stands needed. Possible to be ready for February but unclear still.
vi) next T474 meeting will be monday, Oct. 2., http://www.hep.ucl.ac.uk/~bino/T474/20061002.html
4. T-475 detector was removed from Aline this week and brought to ESA. Some pictures taken are at http://www-project.slac.stanford.edu/ilc/testfac/ESA/photos/T-475/26Sep-2006/
5. EMI
i) likely need some additional measurements in Run 3
ii) planning to do additional tests without beam with antenna as transmitter
iii) planning technote writeup
6. Bunch Length
i) Sean working on Linac simulation. need to compare simulation vs data for dependence of enegy spread and bunch length on compressor and phase ramp
7. T-487
i) Ray is iterating with Oxford engineering/design for T-487 module and stand and vacuum connections.
8. DAQ (Zen)
i) 2 VME power supplies need repair; expect by mid-october
ii) can talk to magnet control, but to go further need load for power supplies
iii) starting work on modification of magnet program to send info to DAQ for logging to tape; also to receive data from NMR probes
9. Alignment
i) have requested survey of ESA bpms to get current positions wrt nominal beamline. should happen in next 2 weeks
ii) have requested to move Q30 down by 1.2mm and Q38 south by 3.3mm based on analysis by Frank Jackson of data in ESA Shift log entries 474 and 476.
10. FY07 Run Dates
i) input received indicates we should be ready for beam by Jan. 30 for Run 3.
ii) initial discussions with accelerator: our competition for beamtime in FY07 comes from SABER and LCLS. They may be a little late in startup and so easier to get beamtime earlier rather than later.
iii) so far sticking with Run 3 dates of Jan. 30 - Feb. 12, but these are not yet finalized.
