Minutes from Oct. 16 meeting (in addition to notes in agenda) + other updates:
1. FY07 runs dates: No change to preliminary dates we've been given. Currently these are:
- Run 3: Jan. 30 - Feb. 12;
- T-490 (bringing LCLS beam to ESA): July 5-8
- Run 4: July 9-22
Our running in FY07 is impacted by scheduling issues for LCLS commissioning and SABER commissioning. LCLS is currently scheduled to bring beam into the Linac starting Feb. 20. They have a Lehman review coming up this coming week and it's possible that date will slip by 2 months. If that happens it's likely we could delay our run by 1 month if needed. Currently we're sticking with the tentative run dates above for Run 3.
2. Updated punch list for tracking details of ESA work is at
http://www-project.slac.stanford.edu/ilc/testfac/ESA/files/PUNCH_LIST.doc
3. T-474/T-491.
i) magnet updates. The 4 chicane magnets have been taken for CMM measurements to fiducialize the magnets. After that they go to the magnetic measurement test facility. Ray, Mike and Zen met with the MMF people on Oct. 17 to discuss the draft msmt plan at http://www-project.slac.stanford.edu/ilc/testfac/ESA/files/BPMSpectrometer/MagnetTest%20PlanRev5_ilcesa.doc. We can also test our NMR and Hall probes at the test facility. And they have a fluxgate probe for low field measurements we will use as well.
ii) magnet support stands. Two of the T2 stages we will use have been brought to ESA from the SLC Final Focus. The other two should arrive in the next couple days. Ray is finalizing the support stand designs and fab of the parts will start soon. Seismic analysis has started.
iii) BPM movers. The system design is being finalized at UCL and orders for system components should be ready to send out soon.
iv) new BPM for mid-chicane. Tests with Aluminum prototype have gone well. Fabrication of copper cavity should start soon. Noted that won't be able to tune BPM in situ on beamline, but should not be needed; will tune just prior to installation. The BPM does not have water cooling. Need to understand if this will pose any problems given temperature stability in ESA. Can think about brazing on cooling channel if needed. A separate phase cavity will be needed, can be 1-2 meters from xy cavity and doesn't need to move.
v) support stand for mid-chicane bpms. Ray is working on this and needs to iterate with UCL on this. Design will accommodate relocating 3BPM4. No decision yet on doing the relocation. Need input from Stew, Yury and Mike H.
vi) T-474 phone meeting was held Oct. 16 to discuss the magnetic measurement plans, and the mid-chicane BPM system.
4. T-475
Designer will start on undulator magnet work needed Oct. 23. Undulator was flushed Oct. 20.
5. T-480.
i) New collimators for Run 3: We discussed Nigel's slides, http://hepunx.rl.ac.uk/swmd/beam/ral/for_run3/Ellwood_nkw16oct2006.pdf
Electrical discharge machining is being investigated to more cheaply produce the collimators. The surface roughness is worse than with the polishing technique used for the 2006 collimators, but is expected to be adequate. It's also being studied about hollowing out the collimator structure to reduce damage from beam hitting the collimators. Final design for new collimators needs to be complete by Nov. 13 to have new collimators to SLAC in january for Run 3.
ii) Gap measurements for 2006 collimators: Measurements have been completed for one of the sandwiches and the other sandwich needs to be removed the beamline to be measured.
iii) Bunch length analysis for 2006 data. Steve and Sean are working on getting better energy and bunch length calibrations from the LOLA and SLM measurements.
6. T-488. Analysis progress to be discussed at FONT Oct. 17 meeting, http://ilcagenda.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1198. Christine is working on scaling of the ESA results to ILC to determine safety margin. Work is also continuing with Christine and Tony on e.m. simulations.
7. DAQ and cableplant.
Zen is continuing work on magnet control software.
Carsten is co-ordinating work on cableplant for power cables and interlocks for magnets. Still hope to be able to power magnets in early November.
Mike is working on gathering info to specify experimental cableplant. Input needed from T-474/491 and T-475.
8. Beamline
Ray is working on overall layout, specifying new flanges, spool pieces and bellows. Parts for these are being ordered.
9. Alignment
Moves have been completed for Q30 and Q38 in the Aline. Survey of ESA BPMs has been completed. Ray will get numbers from alignment group.
10. Safety
i) radiation safety. Mike and Ray met with Stan Mao and Johannes Bauer on Oct. 19. Will need to install LIONs (long ion chambers) for Beam Containment and BurnThruMonitors for PPS. These should be fairly easy. The ion chambers and BTMs exist and cableplant to use these exist. Will need to hook up gas to these. Will likely not need to extend the beamline bunker to the end of ESA, but needs further work on ray tracing for mis-steering and disaster scenarios. Will need to implement meter relays on the magnet power supplies into the BCS system; need to confer with BCS group on this -- believe it was done for E158.
