You are invited to participate in the meeting on March 5, which will be focused on the interaction region work, magnets, stability and integration. Connection info is below. Tentative materials for discussion, and to set the framework, are attached. Please suggest if any other colleagues should be also invited. At the meeting, please prepare to address the questions raised in the attached file. Also please evaluate what is the impact, in terms of EDR planning, of the recent change to single push-pull IR and whether there is a need for adjustment of plans or of distribution of resources. As this planning is a new territory, we would appreciate your feedback on any of the relevant issues. A MeetingPlace conference has been scheduled. Notes and Summary of the meeting
March 5, 2007 S4 expanded meeting. Focused on EDR IR work. Presence: Chris Damerell + Mark Ross + Hitoshi Hayano - (in DESY) Deepa Angal-Kalinin + Andrei Seryi + Hitoshi Yamamoto + BNL colleagues: Mike Anerella Animesh Jain Brett Parker Brief summary (DRAFT): Requirements for FD stability is about 50-100nm (with intra-train feedback). This was not demonstrated so far, and thus cannot be guaranteed now even though that there is a belief that it will not be eventually a show stopper. The soonest information may be coming in 2008, from a mechanical mock-up. With present budget, demonstration of stability of engineering prototype is pushed out to the end of 2010. Scope of the design work has increased, due to single IR decision. A more clearly defined plan is needed, for ourselves as well as for review committees and funding authorities. Although it may be difficult to quantify, would need to estimate where we are right now, in terms of performance & stability, and what improvements are needed (can we do this assessment now, before 2008?). How one can benefit from studies happening elsewhere, e.g. at ATF2? Could sources of problems be more cleanly defined and studied in most cost effected way? ... to be continued ...
