Please let me know if you have any changes... Cheers, Ron WP#38 05/09/2007 -------------------------------------------- Wednesday 5 September 2007 West Coast East Coast W.Europe Japan 07.00 10.00 16.00 23.00 Present: -Paul Colas -Madhu Dixit -Cristian Grefe -Katsumasa Ikematsu -Dean Karlen -Sasha Kaukher (by email) -Xavier Janssen -Leif Joensson -Takeshi Matsuda -Dan Peterson -Oliver Schaefer -Ron Settles -Jan Timmermans -anybody forgotten? Summary ----------------------- 0. News. --As Francois Richard announced at the LDC meeting on August 29, Sakue Yamada has been nominated as RD for the ILC. 1. Cosmic-trigger, news from Takeshi: --A phonemeeting with Yuri Kudenko the next day (September 6) turned out to be very positive. INR Moscow will be able to produce the 15 counter-slabs at a reasonable price for us with delivery by January if all goes well. There are still several details still being worked out on work-sharing, delivery, etc., and as soon as they are clear, Takeshi will send an email to everybody summarizing the full picture. 2. LP1 fieldcage/endplate/electronics news: --The status as of last meeting is on Dan's site http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/~dpp/linear_collider/LargePrototype.html Dan was on vacation for the two weeks, so work is just starting again (some dimensions must be updated). As soon as Dan has identified a vendor for the endplate, he can make up a time schedule (see last point below). --Dean and Dan discussed the flexing (about 20 microns) of the endcap due to the 2mb overpressure, which Dean said should not be taken lightly. Dan said it could be reduced by more stiffening, but not to zero. RS said that this distortion will be constant and we have to learn how to correct for it. Note added by RS: that distortion was about 1mm for the Aleph TPC, causing a bias in the muon momentum from Z->mumu of up to 5%; this could be corrected to the <+-1% level using correction techniques developed by Werner Wiedenmann: see http://www.mppmu.mpg.de/~settles/tpc/Cern_LC.pdf. --Leif reported that the new preamp for the LP (which has now been delivered to Cern) must be tested, and how to test is being discussed with the Cern group. Also Leif asked for the pin assignment for the modified FEC. Finally a mock-up for the connectors is being built at Lund to understand the density of channels that can be achieved. --Meanwhile Leif has bought JAE connectors for 2000 channels in Europe, and Takeshi has the green light from the JAE company to buy the rest in Japan. --Sasha (who could not attend the meeting) brought up (by email) the time schedule for LP1. This was discussed at the collaboration meeting on 4 June: go to the LCWS07 website http://ilcagenda.linearcollider.org/conferenceOtherViews.py?view=standard&confId=1296 Near the bottom at "LC-TPC collaboration meeting LC-TPC open meeting" click on Ties Behnke's "slides" in the talk "LP Schedules". There you see that the LP endplate is just a skeleton, while fieldcage has a preliminary time schedule based on the Eudet planning. We need a volunteer to finish the endplate time schedule and keep it uptodate as things progress. 3. AOB --Next phonemeeting in two weeks: 19.09.2007
