98th ATF2 weekly and Commissioning monthly meeting
November 12 14:30- 16:30, ATF LC meeting room, KEK.
Commissioning team
We will discuss on the schedule of beam studies in December.
Beam time request from laser Compton, S.Miyoshi (Hiroshima univ)
We would like to request 1.5 shifts in every week.
ATF2 commissioning status and beam time request, Toshiyuki Okugi (KEK)
file , ppt, pdf (8 pages, 108KB)
11/24 - , for hardware work
Priorities are;
1st RF gun, LINAC injection
2nd DR re-tuning,
12/10 radiation inspection; which optics for in November and December
present status
- realignment of DR magnets
- 11/4- beam operation, beam ON in night time
succeeded beam in DR w/o steering magnets
- 11/12 DR tuning
Hardware status
no software on the V-system for power supply and movers
- BPM we can see signals
- PLIC monitor hardware is ready, need studies to konw locations
- ICT not ready for cable
- wire scanner no gamma detector, 3/5 position encoder is not, and
carbon wire scanner not ready
- reference cavities, cavity BPM signals, and screen monitors
Special optics for radiation inspection;
the beam could be transportated to the dump only by QD2AFF V-mover.
For this purpose, we need study extraction line optics.
stripline BPM will be ready in the week of 11/17 and
wire scanners will be ready in this December.
The inspection requires
> 40mA in DR , i.e. 1 x 10^10 for 15 bunches in DR. We need to
improve the DR injection efficiency.
machine time requests:
- DR tuning 4 shifts in this week, continue
injection tuning need for the inspection, and
extraction study
- RF gun 2 shifts ( each for emittance and
- in December,
- extraction optics and matching,
- FF beamline High Beta Optics
1 for orbit tuning
2 for optics
- Q : intensity for the inspection, How much in the extraction line?
- A : the same, however, 1.5 Hz, 5 bunches/train
- Q : beam loss should reduced to how much ?
- A : 6% beam loss
1/5 of max. intensity - i.e. 20%
the present loss should be reduced by 1/4 or 1/5 .
The first priority is to reduce the loss
- DR tuning, injection tuning,
- Q : DR-BPM study 1 shift turn by turn study by Manfred (FNAL)
- Q : scrabing operation ? it can be used for the cavity Compton studies
- A : No
- Q : midnight shifts in next week ?
- A : we will operate the beam in midnight,
except for one shift for IP-BSM .
- Q: When is the high beta optics ?
- Q : BPM system commission ?
- A : most can be parasitic, but dedicated for calibration
Alexey will arrive in this Friday, then will discuss a plan.
- Q : reproducibility ?
- A : we will check it. 12/10 Wednesday for 1.5 day is enough for reproduce the special optics
- Q : carbon wire scanner ?
- A : will be ready in Saturday, if not can put in Monday.
until Doug will stay by 11/22
- Q : Can you test it ?
- A (Doug) : Yes, but the gamma detector , Shintake monitor or cerenkov ?
100 - 200um beam size, x and y and u (45 degree) wires
or we may use tungsten wires;
working, moving, scanning before I return to home
- C : Switching optics to the commissioning/inspection optics is easy .
- C : we need check the reproducibility, easy, transmission to the dump.
- A : loss can be monitored by ref. cavity signals, plic signal
- Q : ICT, one polarity is reserved, both were cabled.
- A : both will be ready in this week.
In Nov,
focus on the reduction of loss,
if possible, we will go to the high beta optics.
about 18 shifts requested in December
C : injection tuning by Okugi, Kuroda and Naito
mid-night shifts can be used for studies
cavity Compton study :
RF gun studies to check availability of measuring tools at LINAC
