Minutes LCTPC WP meeting #113 on September 9th, 2010 ========================================= Present: At DESY: Klaus Dehmelt, Christoph Rosemann, Jan Timmermans EVO/phonebridge: David Attie, Paul Colas, Mahdu Dixit, Jochen Kaminski, Gilles De Lentdecker, Michael Lupberger, Takeshi Matsuda, Ron Settles, Akira Sugiyama, Wei Xing, Yifan Yang 1) (General) News: just a reminder of the LCTPC status report due 4 weeks in advance of the DESY PRC meeting (in Zeuthen) 14-15 October. 2) PCMAG/LPTPC status, testbeam schedule: - PCMAG has been excited for moving motor tests; these are not fully finished, to allow installation work on detectors and electronics for the Asian GEM module tests. One problem was discovered with the clutch on the horizontal movement, which was not fixed properly: corrected. Due to some tension on the moving belts, a deviation was observed between the precise measurement system and the motor movement system of order 100-200 um. Recall, that the vertical movement system (not yet tested again) has a breaking safety system. The GUI for the moving operations is not yet completed, so have to use a 'bare' operating commands system provided by the manufacturer; completion/commisioning of the GUI interface will take a few more weeks. - three SAGA modules have been installed at the LP. The Lund group is equipping the modules with electronics. One gas line has to be replaced, can be done quickly, so no large impact on oxygen/water content of LP gas. HV tests of fieldcage have been done. Japanese tests are foreseen to end on morning of 27 September. - Paul Colas plans to arrive at DESY on end-morning of 27 September and bring one LP module. 3) News from groups: Saclay (see slides from Paul attached to agenda page): - Octopuce: Paul recalled some results already reported in July; some more 'cosmic' tracks were shown, however in untriggered shutter mode for the Timepix chips. Single-electron efficiency ~25%. A second Octopuce daughter board was sent to Nikhef for being equipped with 8 Timepix/Ingrids. Jan commented that in principle Nikhef management agreed to this production (cost charged by MESA+ institute of Twente University ~6 kEur) - 7-LP-module electronics is under detailed test: frontend and backend modules ready and tested. DAQ has a problem with memory allocation for zero suppression. The FECs are delayed due to various CAD problems and will not be ready before end November. - electronics for the LP cosmic trigger is being upgraded, replacing NIM logic by custom board with commercial FPGA - 7-LP-module software: Keisuke Fujii and Ryo Yonamine are planning to visit Saclay 24-27 October to continue to work on the Micromegas implementation of multi-module(?) Kalman filter track finder WITHIN the MarlinTpc framework. 7-module event display to be implemented Hope to have some help from Carleton people. - Paul expressed hope to have regular analysis meetings e.g. next one on 28 Sept. at DESY, but given possible testbeam work, PRC status report preparations and immenent EUDET Annual Meeting on 29/9-1/10, this seems not very realistic. Asia (Akira Sugiyama): - 3 GEM modules installed; one module behaving badly due to damaged GEM. Replaced with other module, but again problems. A 2nd replacement of GEM looks promising, after 40' no trip (yet). 4) WP5 discussions: - Takeshi Matsuda reminded of the ion disks issue and reported that Peter Schade was looking into this, but he has now left to CERN and has no time (now) to continue. Klaus Dehmelt might take over. - Jochen Kaminski reminded that Thorsten Krautscheid from Bonn worked on the ion disks electric field distortions and is still interested in it and continue his studies. Jochen will contact Thorsten to synchronise eventual activities 5) AOB: - Klaus D. reminded of the call for contributions to the Tracking session of IWLC in Geneva 18-22 October; please contact Klaus with proposals/requests for talks. We agreed in the past that for this type of conference/workshops LCTPC groups could freely submit talk proposals, but inform Paul Colas (speakersbureau) about these intentions. Next WP meeting #114: September 23, 2010 14:30 CET http://ilcagenda.linearcollider.org/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=4788 (due to my absence Klaus Dehmelt will chair) JT
