Minutes LCTPC WP meeting #116 on October 28th, 2010 ========================================= Present: At DESY: Klaus Dehmelt + Lars Bruster (intern student), Ralf Diener, Jan Timmermans EVO/phonebridge: David Attie, Stefano Caiazza, Paul Colas, Mahdu Dixit, Takeshi Matsuda, Dan Peterson, Ron Settles, Akira Sugiyama, (anybody forgotten?) 1) (General) News: - no news yet from recent PRC meeting (recommendations) - last week during the Geneva IWLC meeting there was IDAG "interview" of CTG on Detector R&D, including presentation by JT on LCTPC activities; oral comment by chairman of IDAG was being impressed by the amount of work and progress achieved by all of the detector R&D collaborations (see chairman's presentation on the last day of the workshop) 2) PCMAG/LPTPC status, testbeam schedule: - Klaus Dehmelt: -PCMAG/LP idle - next week open LP to search for two (shorted) 1 MOhm resistors missing in the resistor chain - hope to have new DESY LP module finished by end Nov/begin Dec to have beam test - PCMAG will be cooled down for this period of testing - Paul Colas: - will try to arrange an Octopuce test beam by end Nov/begin Dec 3) News from groups: Saclay (Paul and David): - several visitors at Saclay to work on software developments: Yun-Ha Shin reads new format up to 7 LP modules Wenxin Wang working on new ILCSOFT/Marlin installation Keisuke Fujii and Ryo Yonamine reconstructed tracks with MarlinTPC and performed track momentum measurement - David started to improve use of MarlinTPC with Micromegas data + Kalman filter + Carlton code. Student of Gilles De Lentdecker has been assigned to work on this software for future 7-module data. - Takeshi Matsuda will send two software activity summaries (by Yun-Ha Shin and Keisuke Fujii); they have been attached to this meeting's indico page Asia (Akira Sugiyama): - The group is re-thinking module design, which however strongly depends on pad board layout. The plan is to change the HV segmentation of the GEMs (now two segments) to smaller areas. In view of the envisaged upgrade of PCMAG and the planned ILD meeting in Japan, a new beam test has to take place before May 2011. 4) WP5 discussions Dan Peterson reported on progress since July (see slides attached to indico page): - three small beam prototypes have been delivered (LP1-type, Al-carbon type, space-frame) and will be tested coming weeks - further addressing FEA calculations for the ILD endplate model; one possibility is to replace each pair of struts in the space frame by a (simple) vertical plate = "equivalent plate" model. With a full (geometrical) thickness of 100 mm, total weight of 136 kg, corresponding to 6% X0. The complete ILD model with plate supports for all 9 rings and for all radial lines within rows, has a deflection of 1.2 mm under a force of 2200 N (corresponding to 2 mbar gas overpressure). But this calculation was WITHOUT a constraint of the inner field cage. (After the meeting: Dan added the constraint of the inner field cage and the deflection became 0.22 mm) - only drawback is that plates are not adjustable and must be glued in place. But then could use carbon fiber. - Dan reminded that for funding contract reasons the advanced LP1 endplate should be produced by July 2011; drawings not ready yet. Added after meeting: forgot to mention that there had been an electronics meeting on 8 October; the minutes of that meeting are attached to this agenda point. 5) no AOB Next WP meeting #117: November 11th, 2010 14:30 CET http://ilcagenda.linearcollider.org/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=4870 JT
