Rob discussed his discussions with:
- Matthias Clausen ( DESY IHEP)
- Camille Ginsburg and Andy Hocker ( FNAL TD)
Email on this was sent out previously.
We reviewed our decisions of the various elogs.
CRL - still in the running
DESY TTF - still in the running
WebLog - good but CRL is preferred. There are more
winners throughout the lab if we upgrade CRL.
AD - weak granularity of data. Hand signed.
DESY IHEP - entries editable
- Claude has seen the source and it is all
servelet based, which makes it hard to maintain.
SNS - WebObjects is proprietary
JLAB - not enough better to unseat FNAL products
PSI - archaic architecture
KBook - notebook, not a logbook. Restrictions on
source; costs real $ to get work done./
Does the portal solution to the problem of
"one view of many logbooks" make any sense?
- Its a hard to execute well.
- the portal may need to know many different
authorization and authentication protocols in order
to get in to the various sites.
Are the multilanguage features of DESY-IHEP of interest
to us?
- Consensus was that it is out of the scope of our charge.
Claude: Ideally we should be looking at related tools
and understanding how they interact with each
other. [ unfortunately the project is not yet
looking at related tools ].
The right way to describe the product(s) that we
recommend is: "all features are present or are easy
to add".
Rob will be giving a presentation on Thursday June 28 to
the ILC task leaders, mostly TD. The thrust of the
presentation will be
a) tell the story so far
b) we recommend CRL
c) another solution might be to use TTF hosted
from DESY.
d) We have not really done enough homework to know
if c) works. If ILC is intereseted we can
do that homework and report back by the end of
July.
[ As the week went on, I learned more about the TTF elog
and on my confidence in c) diminished. In the end
the presentation did not push option c), just mentioned
that it was there. It looks like we will be done on
Friday ]
