LCUK Silicon Meeting December 9th 2015 (Vidyo)

Attendees: Chris, Konstantin, Joel, Daniel, Fergus, Joost, Yvonne, Phil, Georg, Glenn, Wing, Ian

News from LCWS and Elsewhere

  • There is still uncertainty in the Japanese situation, with much effort going on interpretations of the MEXT interim report.
  • There is a perception that as CERN puts resources behind the FCC studies they may be taken from CLIC.
  • SiD have decided to switch software frameworks to use DD4HEP. Glasgow is taking a leading role in the transition.
  • Aidan has three project students working on simulation studies this year, Joel has one or two
  • Things are looking good for e2v getting the sensor order for LSST, as reported by Chris. He also discussed the potential for generic sensor R&D including a timing/integrating split design for LHC trackers.

Local Supports

Georg gave an update on the box channel work (see slides) including details of how to connect the channels, and how to manufacture them. His proposal to spend a few £k on making some prototypes was well-received and more detailed cost estimates are being worked on

AOB

  • Joel agreed to start working on a module design, in consultation with the sensor experts
  • Fergus informed everyone that a sensor PRD targetted at FCC outer tracker and digital calorimeter was accepted
  • The HRes wafers are "in the post"
  • Phil proposed an LCUK meeting in the new year, so we will not schedule a separate silicon meeting in January
