Minutes of the 168th SiD Optimization Meeting:

  • Impressions from KEK director's Fermilab talk last week: successful in establishing for the US community that ILC is still alive
  • Davis presented 'Simple Stack Deep Calorimeter Leakage Calculation' (PDF attached); these continued studies try to estimate the leakage based on early development showers to improve the energy resolution (now ~2%/sqrt(E)); Marty suggested using HCal information to aid these corrections

  • SiD priorities discussion:

    • main issue is manpower

    • studies at Oregon continue (Joey, Chris)

    • Joey will present new results at next meeting

    • conformal tracking issue encountered by Chris is not solved; he is using now SiTracks (truth info) instead of conformal tracks, but these give strange failures in PFO algorithm. Chris will try to document in detail the issue and Dan will contact the relevant experts (Emilia, etc.) to help sort this out

  • Round the table:

    • Amanda focusing mostly on ATLAS now

    • UTA - continuing single charged particle resolution studies; done for ECalBarrel, next for Endcap; student will present intermediate results at the next meeting

    • Marty mentioned studies done at DESY, partly impeded by humidity issues; more to follow

Addendum: Dan forgot to mention he was working on a funding proposal for the last two weeks, and is now back to the low P_t muon PID problem, trying to understand previous studies

  • Next meeting: April 22nd
