======================= Draft =====================================

Minutes of ad-hoc panel on Diversity Charter 7/1/21

Attendees: F. Simon, L. Linssen, F. Corriveau, T. Suehara, M. R. Manzano, L. Masetti, R.P.

  • Observations:
    • General support to the values expressed in the Charter and independently of signing or not the Charter the topic should be addressed in CALICE (see action items)
    • Still no clear picture of consequences of signing in case the analysis by ... whoever ... results in non-compliance
      • Not clear who has mandated the Diversity Group and who will be mandated with the analysis of the and with drawing conclusions
    • Signing the Charter may subject CALICE to surveillance by a (still unknown) committee. On the other hand it is likely that we will become part panels in which the topic (and our data?) will be discussed.
    • In general more communication on the topic between JENA and the relevant collaborations is desirable (at the example of the Recognition WG)
    • In connection with the previous item, what is the political impact of signing or not signing?
  • Actions:
    • Poll at other collaborations (Big LHC Collaborations but also others) whether they have signed or are intending to sign the Charter
      • Side remark 1: neither Lucia nor Francois as ATLAS members have a memory that the Charter has been discussed in ATLAS
      • Side remark 2: Slides of Jorgen D'Hondt at last ECFA Meeting suggest a cautious feedback by the community
    • Before signing we may want to suggest changes to the Charter, for this, the poll mentioned above might be useful
      • The general feeling was that signing the Charter w/o Sec. 3 or at least w/o the last sentence would be less of a problem
    • Independently of signing or not the Charter, CALICE may want to start the collection of relevant data to get a picture on in CALICE Diversity on its own (see also next bullet)
      • In case of signing the charter we discourage indivdual members to fill out the survey but will collect the data centrally
    • CALICE may setup its own Diversity Charter taking example at the ECFA--NUPECC-APPEC Charter
      • Internal follow up in CALICE yet to be defined (true in all cases)
