Sachio Komamiya (24/6/1952 - 5/6/2024)

After education at the University of Tokyo, Sachio spent some years at the University of Heidelberg (1982-1986) and at SLAC (1986-1990) before returning to the University of Tokyo's International Center for Elementary Particle Physics (ICEPP), eventually serving as its director. On his retirement from U. Tokyo in 2018, he took up a post at Waseda University.

During his career he made important contributions to the JADE, Mark-II and OPAL experiments at electron-positron colliders, working on the physics, the associated colliders, and the detectors. He also performed smaller-scale experiments searching for the quantum effects of gravity on ultra-cold neutrons.

Sachio played a key role in the development of linear colliders, with contributions to the final focus, the physics, and the detectors. He served as chairperson of the Linear Collider Board in 2013-2017.
