Description
The ESRF long-term plan for the upgrade of the injection complex foresees a full 6 GeV energy linac option. Given the space limitations of the site, the linac must fit in < 140 m, compactness is a strong design constraint. The most promising candidate to fulfill this goal is the C2 (Cool Copper at 77 K) technology in C-Band (5.712 GHz). The COLD Project intends to demonstrate the readiness of such a technology by accelerating a beam produced by a S-Band RF Gun (2.998 GHz) using C2 structures. The Project officially started in April 2025 and the first civil works of the installation started this summer. The status and goals of the Project will be reported.
