Description
A high-resolution cavity beam position monitor (cBPM) has been designed and fabricated for future linear collider applications. The design utilizes a re-entrant cavity geometry, which was optimized through radio-frequency (RF) simulations using CST Studio Suite. Parametric studies of the cavity's key dimensions were conducted to maximize the normalized shunt impedance—enhancing position sensitivity—while maintaining a loaded quality factor suitable for bunch-by-bunch measurements. Additionally, the coupling to commercial feedthroughs was optimized, and multi-parameter tolerance analyses were performed to establish cost-effective manufacturing thresholds. Following initial low-power RF characterization using a vector network analyzer (VNA), the prototype was tested with an electron beam at the ATF end of Linac. The performance of the complete measurement system was rigorously evaluated to assess its capability and validate the cBPM concept for next-generation colliders.
