Description
The Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) is developing the nanobeam technology necessary for International Linear Collider (ILC) based on the ATF International Collaboration. The ATF has a damping ring capable of generating low-emittance beams necessary for the ILC and the ATF2 beamline capable of focusing the low-emittance beams into the nanometer size ultra-small beams. The ATF2 beamline has beam diagnostic devices for the nanometer-sized ultra-small beams, such as cavity-type BPMs with 20 nm position resolution and a beam size monitor to measure nanometer-sized ultra-small beams by utilizing laser interference fringes. The ATF is capable to investigate not only for ILC beam focusing technology development but also for a wide range of research related to nanometer-scale ultra-small beams. As part of these efforts, over the three-year period through JFY2025, the various devices were updated. Starting in JFY2026, we began systematic beam tuning studies utilizing the updated equipment and upgraded diagnostic technologies. We summarize the upgrades to the ATF2 beamline and reports on the present status of beam tuning studies at the ATF.
