Optimisation of the BeamCal design 25mThe BeamCal, an electromagnetic calorimeter at very small polar angle, is aimed to detect single high energy electrons on top of the widely spread background from beamstrahlung. This feature is important, since processes with high energy electrons at small polar angles are a severe background for many new particle searches. The performance of BeamCal for two different sensor segmentations is compared for beam parameters proposed for the ILC at 1 TeV. The number of readout channels is kept constant. One of the segmentations shows clearly a superior performance. In addition, the range of signal charges is estimated for both segmentations.Speaker: Ms Lyutsiya Bortko (DESY Zeuthen)

Results from a testbeam study of a fully assembled sensor plane for BeamCal 20mThe International Linear Collider (ILC) is being designed to explore particle physics at the TeV scale. At this energy beamstrahlung needs to be considered in the design of the Very Forward Region since it creates a high radiation field. Radiation hard sensors using new GaAs:Cr wafers are an option for the BeamCal. Using dedicated fast front-end and ADC ASICs a prototype of a sensor plane was built and studied in a 4 GeV electrons beam. Results on the performance of the full system are presented.Speaker: Ms Olga Novgorodova (DESY)

Beam tests performance results of the LumiCal detector module 20mDuring 2010 and 2011 the FCAL collaboration performed three beam tests. These were the first tests of the LumiCal silicon- and the BeamCal GaAs-sensors prototypes equipped with a full readout chain. The readout chain included sensors, fan-outs, dedicated front-end electronics and, during the 2011 beam-tests, also a newly-designed 10-bit pipeline ADC was included. This talk will describe the beam tests setup and the LumiCal performance results. These include spectrum and correlation analysis in synchronous and asynchronous mode, combinations between sensor information and position-reconstruction and the development of electromagnetic showers in the Tungsten absorber.Speaker: Itamar Levy (Tel Aviv University (IL))

Luminosity measurement at 500 GeV and 1 TeV ILC 25mWe present the method of luminosity measurement at the future linear collider (ILC) that corrects for the impact of the dominant sources of systematic uncertainty originating from the beam-induced effects and the background from physics processes. Some of these systematic corrections can be done in a simulation independent manner. With the introduced corrective methods we show that the overall systematic uncertainty of the luminosity measured in the peak region above 80% of the nominal center-of-mass energy meets the physics requirements to be at the permille level at all ILC energies.Speakers: Mrs Mila Pandurovic (Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences), strahinja lukic

Impact of beam polarization on the LC physics potential for the staged approach 25mThe impact of beam polarization (e- and e+) for the physics potential of a LC will be discussed and weighted with regard to the expected LHC prospects. New examples in the different physics areas will shortly be discussed. In particular the new aspect of outlining the physics potential at the different energy stages (250, 350, 500, 1000) with regard to the polarization aspects will be addressed.Speaker: Gudrid Moortgat-Pick (University of Hamburg/DESY)

Towards the exact calculation of strong field effects on polarized particles at future linear colliders 20mFuture linear colliders will collide very dense charge bunches which exhibit strong electromagnetic fields which noticeably affect physics processes. The most obvious example is depolarisation at the IP which is made up of a number of strong field processes and which varies from 0.22% (ILC) to 5% (CLIC). The transition probabilities of these processes are calculated using an approximation which requires all particle momenta ultra-relativistic and anti-collinear to the oncoming field. This is not the case for beams with a crossing angle, for integrations over all final particle momenta and for particle propagators. In the interests of precision calculations, new solutions of the Dirac equation in the fields of both charge bunches are obtained and employed to recalculate various transition probabilities. The effect on the beamstrahlung and the depolarisation is discussed.Speaker: Anthony Hartin (DESY)

17:35
Using the spent beam at the ILC in order to understand strong field physics at the Interaction Point (IP) 20mStrong IP electromagnetic fields, being responsible for depolarisation and coherent processes among other things, will play an important role in precision physics at future linear colliders. It is possible that additional strong field effects which are still in the process of being understood may manifest themselves at the ILC and CLIC. In order to understand these effects we propose using a Compton IP in the extraction line of the ILC to take advantage of the energetic fermions downstream of the primary collider IP. A focused, ultra-intense tabletop LASER brought into contact with the spent electron or positron beam at a low angle will provide a boosted system in which strong fields can exceed by up to two orders of magnitude, those previously created in the laboratory. Such strong fields interacting with the polarised spent beam mean that depolarisation, field induced mass shifts and multiphoton processes as well as several new strong field effects can be tested. These strong field tests can provide vital information in order to understand strong field effects at the primary collider IP.Speaker: Anthony Hartin (DESY)

Test results of an ecal-layer with embedded electronics 20mScintilator strip ECAL is one of the candidate of ILD calorimeter. Since we need to thin down ECAL without deteriorating the performance, we constructed an EBU which is embedded readout electronics as a technological prototype of a strip scintillator ecal. We have tested the performance both with high energy electron beams and LED system.Speakers: Dr Tohru Takeshita (Shinshu University), Tohru Takeshita (Department of Physics - Shinshu Univer)

The performance of the Physics Prototype of the CALICE ScWECAL for ILD 25mExcellent jet energy measurement is required for the future linear collider experiment. The Particle Flow method of jet reconstruction, which can achieve excellent energy measurement, requires a calorimeter with very fine granularity. We have constructed a prototype electromagnetic calorimeter (ScWECAL), consisting of scintillator strips and Multi-pixel Photon Counter as active layers and and tungsten plates as absorber. We achieve an effective granularity of almost 10x10 mm^2 by orthogonally oriented scintillator layer. We will report on the ScWECAL performance in tests using 32 GeV muon and 2-32 GeV electron beams ant MT6 of FNAL in 2009.Speaker: Yuji SUDO (Kyushu University)

Pandora PFA with SiW and ScW ECAL Models 25mFine granularity particle flow calorimetry is the baseline for the detector at the ILC or CLIC. The Pandora algorithms provide the most sophisticated particle flow implementation and are used in the majority of detector-optimisation and physics-sensitivity studies. In this talk, the development of a "cost-effective" Electromagnetic Calorimeter will be discussed, and studies of jet energy resolutions will be presented for ECAL models instrumented with either silicon pixels or scintillator tiles. The need to ensure that the particle flow software is fully understood and optimised for each ECAL configuration will be emphasized throughout the talk.Speaker: Dr John Marshall (University of Cambridge)

The Time Structure of Hadronic Showers in Imaging Calorimeters with Scintillator and RPC Readout 25mThe intrinsic time structure of hadronic showers has been studied to evaluate its influence on the timing capability and on the required integration time of highly granular hadronic calorimeters in future collider experiments. The experiments have been carried with systems of 15 detector cells, using both scintillator tiles with SiPM readout and RPCs, read out with fast digitizers and deep buffers. These were installed behind the CALICE scintillator - Tungsten and RPC - Tungsten calorimeters as well as behind the CALICE semi-digital RPC - Steel calorimeter during test beam periods at the CERN SPS. We will discuss the technical aspects of these systems, and present results on the measurement of the time structure of hadronic showers in steel and tungsten calorimeters. For scintillator readout, these are compared to GEANT4 simulations, providing important information for the validation and the improvement of the physics models. In addition, a comparison of the observed time structure with scintillator and RPC active elements will be presented, which provides insight into the differences in sensitivity to certain aspects of hadronic showers depending on readout technology.Speaker: Dr Frank Simon (Max-Planck-Institut fuer Physik)

CALICE DHCAL Results from Fermilab Beam Tests 25mThe large CALICE Digital Hadron Calorimeter prototype (DHCAL) was built and tested in the Fermilab and CERN test beams between 2009 - 2013. The DHCAL uses Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) as active media and is read out with 1 x 1 cm2 pads and digital (1 - bit) resolution. With a world record of nearly 0.5M readout channels, the DHCAL offers the possibility to study hadronic interactions with unprecedented spatial resolution. Here we report on the results from the analysis of pion and positron events of momenta between 2 to 60 GeV/c collected in the Fermilab test beam. Particular emphasis is given to the intricate calibration procedure. The analysis demonstrates the unique utilization of detailed event topologies in the DHCAL.Speaker: Burak Bilki (University of Iowa-Unknown-Unknown)

Challenges for Polarimetry at the ILC 25mAt the International Linear Collider (ILC), the beam polarization is planned to be measured with a yet unequaled systematic uncertainty of 0.25 % by two Compton polarimeters located 1.6 km upstream and 150m downstream of the e+e- interaction point (IP). The decisive quantity for the experiments, i.e. the luminosity-weighted average polarization, has to be determined from these measurements. A detailed understanding of the spin tracking and the depolarizing effects is mandatory in order to estimate how precise the polarization at the IP is known from these measurements performed 2 km apart. The talk discusses the results of this study with focus on the collision effects and the spin transport after the collision.Speaker: Moritz Beckmann (DESY)

Polarimetry for Future Linear Colliders 25mCompton polarimetry is an essential method to obtain sub - 1% accuracy in measuring the polarization of the colliding beams. It is also necessary to investigate the beam depolarization effects. With evolving technology and the availability of new detector concepts, several options for polarimeters are possible. Here we explore novel detector options for Compton polarimetry that are suitable both conceptually and technologically for the next generation linear colliders.Speaker: Burak Bilki (University of Iowa-Unknown-Unknown)
